Your cakes look beautiful, but how do they taste?
At Elegantly Iced, we make incredible works of art. However, at the end of it all, we realize that it is edible. As a pastry chef, the taste of your cake is just as important to Lindsey as the artistic design.
To that end, we use only the finest ingredients so quality is never sacrificed. In our kitchen, we use no mixes, make everything fresh from scratch, and use only the finest ingredients. Whether it’s butter from France, rich, pure Valrohna chocolate, Tahitian vanilla beans, or house-roasted nuts, you will savor each and every crumb!
Do you offer tastings? When can I schedule an appointment?
Yes! We do offer tasting appointments to clients based on our availability for the event date. If we are able to make a cake for you then we will schedule an appointment to discuss all of the details of your event.
Due to the busy schedules of our clients and the time constraints and deadlines we face, most appointments are made during business hours, Tuesdays through Thursdays. Fridays and Saturdays we are busy finishing and delivering the cakes. However, if the weekends are the only times that work with your schedule, please let us know. We try to accommodate everyone, so please contact us and we will make every effort to work within your schedule.
Tasting appointments can be booked for one to four people. Please tell us in advance how many people will attend the tasting so that we make the proper number of cakes for you and your guests to try.
Tastings take about one hour from start to finish. Often, we have tastings scheduled before and after yours. Please try to arrive on time, so that we can make the most of time together!
How much do the cakes cost?
Each cake is a one-of-a-kind custom design. Because each confection is a unique creation, we do not have standardized pricing. All cakes are priced individually for each client based on complexity of design, hours of artwork, craftsmanship, as well as number of portions. We do, however, have a starting price point for the cakes that we offer.
Cake prices begin at $8 a serving and up, with a minimum order of $300. Sculpted cakes begin at $12 a serving. Most of our wedding cake clients usually fall within a $10 - $12 per portion price point.
What factors will influence the cost of my cake?
As a general rule the cost of a cake depends on how much artistic labor is involved. Therefore cakes that are a difficult or unusual shape or require extensive fine lace piping or a lot of sugar flowers will be more expensive.
How far in advance should I contact you about my cake?
We would love to speak with you at your earliest stages of planning. The more time that you can give us, the more time we have to work on your custom cake. We require a minimum of 3 weeks notice on all cakes. However, please keep in mind that we often book up far in advance.
How do I reserve my date? Do you require a deposit?
A non-refundable deposit of 50% is required to reserve the date and confirm your order. Two weeks before your event your final balance is due. If you would like to book the date, but have not decided on design, you are welcome to send in your deposit and we can continue to work on the design until the balance is due. If you would like to book the date, but don’t know how many people will be attending you event, we can estimate your deposit and then adjust the numbers when the remaining balance is due.
Do you have a catalog or brochure with additional samples and photographs?
Each cake is custom designed for each client, so our website serves mainly as a portfolio for you to see some of our previous work. It’s designed to give an introduction to our style and services. We are continually creating and designing new techniques and styles, and have an extensive portfolio on hand in our showroom to see at your appointment.
May I purchase sugar flowers and sugar decorations from you?
We do not sell our sugar flowers or sugar decorations separately from our full cakes. Our sugar embellishments are very time-consuming to make and too fragile to ship on their own.
Would you be willing to use fresh flowers on my cake?
Our preference is sugar flowers, especially on wedding cakes, as they have a more sophisticated and polished look. This also allows us to control the scale, proportion, and color of the flowers. Additionally, we love the artistic challenge sugar work presents and recommend saving the flowers as keepsakes.
Fresh flowers are usually sprayed with strong pesticides, which should not come in contact with edible elements. If for some reason you have an absolute wish to use fresh flowers then we will purchase and place the flowers on the cake during the final stages of decoration. However, as we have no control over the pricing of flowers, this cost will be passed on to you.
Do you delivery and set up the cake? How much does delivery cost?
Yes. We will deliver your cake to the location of your choosing and set it up for you. Delivery costs vary with distance the cake needs to travel as well as size and complexity of the set up. Please speak with us personally for an estimate on your delivery fee.
Do you ship cakes?
Due to the fragility of the cake decorations as well as freshness, we do not ship cakes at this time. Each cake is hand delivered to ensure its safe arrival and freshness.
Do you make kosher cakes?
Unfortunately, we are not under supervision to create kosher cakes at this time.
I have food restrictions. Do you make vegan, gluten-free, or dairy-free cakes?
Elegantly Iced tries to work around most peoples’ dietary restrictions. We do offer a few options to those people. However, we do not offer any vegan cake options.
Do you have a retail store? May I come to observe you at work?
We do not have a retail store or any pre-made cakes for sale. Our cake studio is open by appointment only. We love to accommodate other confectionery artists and enjoy meeting visitors from around the world. However, because of time constraints and deadlines to complete every detail before it is time for delivery, we are extremely busy and can only meet by appointment.
Do you have any job openings? May I intern for you?
We are always on the lookout for talented individuals to join our team. We accept resumes for potential employees with previous experience in the culinary field and also have a selective process in choosing interns. Interns are required a minimum of 2 months work. Please send us a resume, cover letter and any photographs of previous work. Employee hopefuls must be skilled with fondant, gum paste, baking and cake construction. Artistic and creative backgrounds are encouraged.
